I Loved Delaney I loved Delaney though I'm not sure she loved me She left me drifting like a boat upon the sea And then she'd call me back to the shore When she thought, perhaps she wanted more We danced in circles though she turned a sweeter step She said move one way I went right and she moved left Slipped away all care and no concern Round the circle cutting in 'till her return I could never know her secrets, all were unconfessed Many wounds were open and casually left undressed Oh Delaney, I loved you like a sin Now it's over and there's just time to begin Understandings and meanings missed Other cheeks offered instead Opportunities through fingers slipped Open letters left unread Mostly at night-time I calculate the cost See through the darkness all the love that has been lost Slipped away all care and no concern "Till the morning when the verdict is returned I could never make her happy, I could only make her smile She never told the truth but still put me on trial Oh Delaney, I loved you like a sin Now it's over and there's just time to begin © JAMESONGS 2019

Payback 05:00
Payback I'm still shaking from my last fix Soaked in sweat and rage Trapped within my thoughts and room A prison inside a cage Wounded and strung out With nothing left to loose And people who have debts to pay You borrow shit piss it away Are heading for a judgment day If that's the path you choose Think i took too many right turns 'Till I had nothing left My woman and my children gone Broken and bereft I picked the shattered pieces up And buried them in ice But I could not reassemble them My hands would shake and tremble them You held me still I remember when When settled on a price And now it's time for payback I'm calling in the loans And kicking down your front door With names and sticks and stones It's too late to beg for mercy It's too late to cry for help When the debts payed out There can be no doubt That you brought this on yourself Well we we had one thing in common I guess that was the point And we followed that black dog around From joint to stinking joint I had nothing to give you But you took it all the same And then left me here to stew and steam To text and curse and spit and scream You left me here to plot and scheme And figure out the game I organised the action So as not to seem suspect I wanted people I could trust But not need to respect I gave them clear instructions And a list of my demands They threatened and they wounded But left with empty hands I'm still shaking from the judgement And the years that lay ahead Trapped within my thoughts and cell A prison inside my head I pointed out the markers Each and every sign A family that was torn apart An older brother lithe and smart A broken mind a broken heart But in the end the fault was mine And now it's time for payback The loans have been called in Eyes and teeth have been exchanged And summaries begin It's too late to beg for mercy It's too late to cry for help When the debts payed out There can be no doubt That I brought this on myself © JAMESONGS 2019

Running on Hyde Street I was running on Hyde street or hiding on run Running and hiding from what I can't tell When up in the distance the cop cars were circle Like seagulls outside the Victoria hotel The cinema sun hung low in the sky I looked straight ahead and went to run through She held up her hand and beckoned me round The officer dressed all in yellow and blue My heart was pounding my breath was short Anxiety exhaustion same chain different gears Blood on the footpath and covered in towels Lay a thousand heartaches crying a million tears I run across Hyde street and down to the gardens Across freshly mown lawns beside well kept beds I wonder what killed that man on the footpath The story was taking a shape in my head I think he was homeless or harmless or hopeless Looking for shelter or a smoke to share I climbed heartbreak hill and I couldn't help thinking Will anyone miss him will anyone care One persons torment's another's entertainment There's a show in watching someones fears It's the schadenfreude that fills the void With a thousand heartaches crying a million tears I passed Seddon station where people were waiting Shuffling away from places they dwell The cops had completed their investigation As the doors opened up the Victoria hotel There's pleasure in looking at someones misfortune You can see it on line mist the porn and the glam But I never discovered his sad situation The tragic story of one lonely man There for grace of God go you or I The innocent victim of too many beers You trip and you stumble and crack your life open Spill a thousand heartaches crying a million tears © JAMESONGS 2015

The Battle For Wilson Street I’m living on Wilson Street down by the line, Where old Mrs Murphy spent most of her time. They tore down her house and they might tear down mine, Now they’re drawing up plans that I think are a crime. Our street ain’t too pretty and it sure ain’t too proud, The planes can be noisy the trains can be loud. You could move in tomorrow you know that’s allowed, Just live on the ground and not up in a cloud. Oh Yarraville what can we do, The folks with the money are rolling on through. Maybe Mar would but I wouldn’t would you, Put a size 14 foot in a size 7 shoe. The parcel of land at the end of my street, Is buzzing like bees for the honey is sweet. The di has been cast but the round ain't complete, If we don’t stand up now then we’re bound for defeat. Yarraville village you’re the jewel of the west, Of the towns by the Yarra you’re the one they named best. But the times are a changing and the future looks vexed, Better make your stand now ‘cause your street may be next. The houses are built and they're 3 stories high Foam bricks and render reach up to the sky John wanted four floors but we called his bluff VCAT said three stories high was enough © JAMESONGS 2015
