lyrics

The Battle For Wilson Street

I’m living on Wilson Street down by the line,
Where old Mrs Murphy spent most of her time.
They tore down her house and they might tear down mine,
Now they’re drawing up plans that I think are a crime.

Our street ain’t too pretty and it sure ain’t too proud,
The planes can be noisy the trains can be loud.
You could move in tomorrow you know that’s allowed,
Just live on the ground and not up in a cloud.

Oh Yarraville what can we do,
The folks with the money are rolling on through.
Maybe Mar would but I wouldn’t would you,
Put a size 14 foot in a size 7 shoe.

The parcel of land at the end of my street,
Is buzzing like bees for the honey is sweet.
The di has been cast but the round ain't complete,
If we don’t stand up now then we’re bound for defeat.

Yarraville village you’re the jewel of the west,
Of the towns by the Yarra you’re the one they named best.
But the times are a changing and the future looks vexed,
Better make your stand now ‘cause your street may be next.

The houses are built and they're 3 stories high
Foam bricks and render reach up to the sky
John wanted four floors but we called his bluff
VCAT said three stories high was enough
